We recommend and work with the two premier English language teaching professional organisations: IATEFL and TESOL.
IATEFL
LATE is an Associate member of IATEFL – the International Association of Teachers of English, which is based in the UK. Membership of IATEFL is particularly useful for those teachers/academics who intend to attend and present at a number of IATEFL conferences in Europe.
LATE members can become members of IATEFL in 3 ways.
- By becoming a member of IATEFL by paying the full annual membership fee of £55 (this includes 1 SIG membership)
- By taking out BASIC Membership – this is only open to LATE members and the cost is lower than the full membership fee and this does not include the complimentary SIG membership.
- Through the WMS – Worldwide Membership Scheme – LATE is eligible for some reduced cost IATEFL memberships. Please contact the LATE office to see if any of these are available.
All membership categories receive 6 copies of the IATEFL newsletter – VOICES, as well as discounted fees for all IATEFL conferences.
Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages
Because teachers in Latvia fall into a specific income bracket then they are eligible for a special low-price membership of TESOL Global Professional membership, which is US$35. If you are interested in becoming a Global member of TESOL, then please apply directly to the TESOL website.
The Global Professional membership (GME) category offers a discounted membership option for members who are current legal residents or native-born current residents of a country with a gross national income (GNI) per capita of US$15,000 or less (as defined by the United Nations). Global Professional members are full members of TESOL but are not eligible for early renewal discounts.
As an electronic-only category, members must have a valid e-mail address in order to receive benefits by e-mail. GME members may add electronic access to TESOL Quarterly (electronic only; no print copies included) for an additional $45.
