Thanks to the University of Latvia Faculty of Pedagogy, Psychology and Arts, on the 8th November 2023, the “Excellence Award” event for the English Language teachers was organised for the first time in history.
A total of 104 recommendations were received and 64 English language teachers from all over Latvia were nominated for the Excellence Award by students, graduates, parents and colleagues.
23 of the nominees and all the five finalists are LATE members. The Latvian Association of Teachers of English expresses gratitude to all LATE teachers who do their work responsibly and conscientiously.
We particularly congratulate all five finalists – Agnese Gromova-Ķūrena (Distance Education Secondary School “Riga Commerce School”), Rita Murāne-Rutka (Daugavpils State Gymnasium), Vintra Pūķe (Zenta Mauriņa Grobiņa Secondary School), Daina Spilberga (Jaunmārupe Elementary School) and Laima Takere (Riga Secondary School No 49) as they proved themselves as high-level professionals in the presented lessons and follow-up tasks.

The “Excellence Award” and a scholarship of EUR 1,400 was awarded to Agnese Gromova-Kurena by the British Council Latvia and Rita Murāne-Rutka received a special award for the contribution in promoting English language learning in the regions of Latvia.
LATE would like to say thank you to the English teacher Ivars Dominiks Zeps for his contribution to the work of the association with the “Debut of an Excellent Young Teacher” award. We also congratulate Gabriela Ozoliņa as Gabriela is currently a LATE member and presented at the last LATE conference and was nominated for the “Debut of an Excellent Young Teacher” award by the German Teachers’ Association.
